The status of the fetus is often a source of debate regarding abortion. Some parties claim that the fetus is not a 'person' so that the act of abortion is not considered a moral crime. Meanwhile, other parties claim that the fetus is a complete person so that abortion is a form of moral crime. I decided to stand together with the second party. Life begins at the beginning of fertilization (conception) so the life of the fetus needs to be respected. The fetus is categorized as a pre-natal human being. He has a clear identity and from the beginning he was human. The act of abortion is categorized as a form of moral crime because it consciously has the heart to terminate the life of a weak creature that has just grown up and is unable to fight back. Every dignified human being should not disturb, threaten, or even attack the existence of other humans. This also applies to actions against the fetus. The reason for an unwanted pregnancy, for example a pregnancy resulting from rape, cannot be a reason to terminate the life of a living being. It cannot be denied that there are often incidents where a pregnant woman's condition is in danger of death so that medical action needs to be taken which ultimately has a negative impact on the unborn fetus. In this case the principle or doctrine of double effect applies. Motivation is important, and in this case the motivation was to save the mother's life. Fetal death is a completely undesirable side effect. The act of abortion remains essentially a cruel act. If we think that inflicting pain on an animal is an act that is cruel and degrading to our dignity as human beings, then why do we still try to make an action that clearly aims to end human life a legal public policy? The legalization of abortion, for me, does not correlate with the rate of unintended pregnancies. What needs to be improved is how moral education in society is updated. Synergy between government and society is one of the keys to success in this matter.
